DNA Test Results by Keith Clawson (March 2, 2014)

Several years ago, I submitted a DNA sample to Family Tree DNA for testing.   Since the original tests, I ordered additional testing since that time to help gather more information on my ancestry.

I have matched my DNA to 2 other Clawson family tree members.  One Clawson relative is a descendant from John Clawson who married Elizabeth Wincher.  I descended from the same couple but a brother to this Clawson member.  Another Clawson relative is a descended of Peter Closson who was a brother to the John Clawson mentioned earlier.

For those who think they may be related to my Clawson line, below are the Y-DNA results to compare against.  To have a valid comparison, you must have had the Y-DNA tests and you should either have a Clawson surname or can be traced your paternal line to a Clawson.  For the first Clawson relative that was mentioned, I differ by one between my results and his but I don't know where we differ.  For the second Clawson relative, the differences are shown as red in the table below.

The table below shows the Y-STR results where each entry is a separate allele.  My Haplogroup for this test is R1a1a1.  For more information on this data, go to the Family Tree DNA site.

Additionally, I had test for certain SNPs which further define how closely you may be related to other people or groups.  The results of these test are shown below which indicate that my ancestry matches up with people who had populated the Baltic area and Carpathia region of Eastern Europe.  For more information on this data, go to the Family Tree DNA site.

I also had mtDNA tests done which provides information through your maternal connections.  This is more difficult to use than the Y-DNA tests, but the results indicate that my maternal line was from Eastern Germany and Poland.  My tests state that my Haplogroup for this is J1b1a1.
